Bathroom Ideas…The Big Idea

Bathroom ideas from JapanOf all bathroom ideas, you don’t want to miss the biggest idea – why it’s there. In this harried world we see the bath as far too much a necessity, something to get out of the way. In Eastern cultures, especially Japan, the bath is a place to restore the body and soul, to reflect on the day, to ease the muscles, to take away the chill.

While many people believe they simply don’t have the space for a bath such as this, most in fact do. It’s simply a matter of priorites.

The bathroom ideas you find here will be those that will make the bath one of the most treasured rooms in your home, and will help to improve your body, your health and your spirit.

Seaside Bath and Shower

Seaside bath and showerAh…ok. This bath and shower unit has been making the rounds lately. I think it can never hurt to remind readers that this is a site for ideas. Practical things like installation and engineering are up to you. Everybody wants to bath next to the sea, I’m not sure why. Even I like it. And this picture looks great. But it looks great the way a minimally furnished room in a new house looks great. Nobody except zen monks live in minimally furnished rooms. (And, frankly, having know a few zen monks, they tend to opt for regular places like the rest of us.)  Now in this room that appears to be miraculously hovering over a tidepool, we have a bath and shower with no faucets at all. How do we control the water flow and temperature? Is there are remote control hidden behind the tub? Also, there appear to be no windows, so this tub won’t stay clean long, but it may make the local wildlife happy. Of course, like tubs, windows also require hardware, and hardware would muss up the picture. The floor, meanwhile, has a nice shine. Shame what will happen to it after it gets wet a few times.

The shower is especially neat. It seems to draw water from a sunlight, as there is no artificial light in most homes that can emit the kind of light coming from this shower on a sunny day.

And where’s the soap, by the way? Personally, I think it’s nasty to shower and then bath in the same water you just washed yourself with, but to each his own. Either way, soap is needed. It must be in hiding with the remote control faucet

Some Amazing Bathroom Ideas

Over at FreshHomes.com, they have come up with several stunning bathroom ideas, some ridiculous, some highly desirable. Really a good bathroom is only second to the kitchen in my book, and second to none in my wife’s book. Here are a few of the more interesting ones.

Inside Outside Bathroom Ideas

Ok, all kinds of stuff going on here. The half inside, half outside pool is a common feature in many Japanese baths at ryokans and traditional resorts. It’s a bit odd in this picture because the sunken bath in front seems superfluous. Either that, or the background bath is just to look at, which would be self defeating. The combination of an indoor/outdoor bath with all glass walls really does bring the nature effect home, but this picture is just a but too busy with one too many baths.

bathroom ideas rustic and modern

Does this weird combo of the rustic and modern work for you? It didn’t for me either. And what’s the toilet doing in a dream bathroom anyway? Who wants to see or smell that while in the bath? A wood bath would have been lovely here, or at least something traditional looking. The toilet and bidet belong in another room.

bathroom design urban with shower

While this doesn’t have the ethereal effect of the previous two, it sure is a bathroom I could happily live with. The separate shower with the wood slats on the shower floor, the sunken bath, the double basin and ample closet space. It’s a winner.

Japanese bathroom design whirlpool

This almost works, aside from being really tiny. Assuming that’s a shower tucked in behind there, and that the outdoors are real Japanese scenery (which in Kyushu looks a lot like Hawaii). Drainage could be provided under the rocks to catch spillovers.

Bathroom Design Mistakes

Tired of your old bathroom? Then you can do a simple or an extreme bathroom makeover. Of course, it would depend on your budget and what your really want for you bathroom. Remodelling could be a tough job. Whether you are doing it for the first time or you have renovated any part of the house before, there are some difficulties that you are bound to face.

When doing a home renovation, some homeowners tend to be carried away and would commit several mistakes along the way. Here are the most common bathroom renovation mistakes that we should avoid.

・Poor planning.

If your bathroom renovation is not even planned well, then don稚 expect it to go well. Planning is not just about thinking the design, it is about knowing what would work and not work with your space. If you fail to come up with a satisfactory plan, surely you would encounter some blunders like fixtures or furniture does not fit in the space or problems with lighting or plumbing.

・Doing everything on your own.

Unless home renovation and bathroom design is your profession, you would definitely need professional help. Do not think that just because you read instructions on how you can install tiles in the bathroom, you are qualified to do it. When facing extreme bathroom makeovers, you would need the help of carpenters, installers, plumbers and electricians. If you try to do it on your own, it could even result to problems in the future.

・Not exploring your options.

So you heard about this great contractor, great bathroom furniture shop or any bathroom necessity provider, and you settled for them rightaway. Before you do not, you need to explore the market. Just because your friends said that they were good, you would get them. You need to find somebody who will be able to translate what you want or need. When doing bathroom remodelling, you would need to get at least three quotes from different stores and different contractors. This way, you get to analyze who will best provide your need.

・Having a very tight budget.

Of course, the reason why you have the budget is so that you would not overspend. But some homeowners tend to make the mistake of getting too tight with their budget, so when something happens they are unprepared for it financially. When making your budget, at least give it 20 to 30% allowance.

・Overlooking function and safety.

There are many homeowners that really want to have a stylish bathroom, unfortunately, they tend to overlook that a bathroom is still a bathroom. You and your entire family will be using it. Aside from being stylish, you would also need a bathroom that would cater to the needs of the family. Include organizing each family member痴 personal care and stuff in the plan. This would maintain your bathroom in its glory. In addition to that, you would also need to ensure the safety of your bathroom. The floors should be slip resistant and you should have grab bars in tubs and shower areas.

・Poor ventilation.

Ventilation is important to keep molds and mildew from covering your newly installed tiles. Ventilation gets overlooked most of the times. Most homeowners would notice it after noticing the unwanted growth of molds in their bathroom walls. Not including it in your remodelling would cost you more money in the future. It would also put your extreme bathroom makeover in jeopardy.
